To obtain a knowledge of the mor phology and life history of representative examples of disease producing organisms belonging to the various sub-d1v1sions of the plant kingdom, Such knowledge would serve as a bas1s for a continuation of work along the same lines. (2) To acquire a considerable degree of efficiencv in determining to genus and species unknown organisms causing various types of disease. This will bring the student in touch With the literature of the subject and wi11 enable those so inclined to go deeper into any specialphase in which they may be interested. (3) To gain a considerable amount of miscellaneous information on the sub ject of plant diseases in general, their symptoms and effects, and the control or preventative measured that may be applied. (d) Last but not least, to develop the powers of close oh servation and discrimination necessary for successful work in any line of scientific endeavor.
