In this suit, Joseph Clymer, a trader, claims he was contracted by the government to carry supplies from Fort Leavenworth to Taos, El Paso, and Doña Ana in New Mexico Territory. He is suing the government for breach of contract, after receiving word from the Quartermaster General that his services would not be needed - after he had already purchased wagons and teams to move large amounts of supplies across the country.
