Using a brilliant two-pronged plan - Prosperity and Pain - Mordecai saved the Jews from assimilation and extinction. Prosperity: Mordecai established a vast commercial conglomerate, leveraging the peaceful Persian empire and its new royal roads with the Jewish pilgrimage tradition, to create trade routes connecting all the empire's cities, which brought prosperity and influence to the Jews for millenniums. Pain: Anticipating that jealousy and hatred would arise against the Jews' success, Mordecai harnessed the anger to bring about pain and misery, much like God did with slavery in Egypt. He skillfully promoted his enemy, Haman, orchestrating a confrontation that united the Jews in a daring struggle for survival. The Jews' victory was memorialized with a new holiday, ensuring generational survival.
