The Cove

This story is not an autobiography. It is a collection of stories about a boy's discoveries in the world of nature. The stories told in these essays could possibly have been experienced by any boy with an insatiable desire to learn about nature and its creatures. However, this particular boy had an incentive far beyond a child's normal curiosity about nature. These small adventures offered him temporary escape from a life of poverty. The Cove became more than just an escape; it became his haven. Nature and the Cove asked nothing of him but gave him answers to many questions.

Bud Simpson was born in Brewer, Maine during the Great Depression. He grew up with the Penobscot River in his backyard, Johnson Brook a quarter of a mile away from his front door, and lots of woods in between. This close proximity to the woods and waters of Maine instilled in him a great love of nature. His love of nature is still with him today. He writes a weekly column for the Logan Daily News in Logan, Ohio and an occasional nature column as well. Besides writing, he is also a photographer, sculptor, and an artist in several media.
