Covington, Kentucky, Northern Kentucky's largest city, is located at the confluence of the Ohio and Licking Rivers, directly across from Cincinnati. Within a few years of the city's founding in 1815, the steamboat had generated much prosperity in the region and attracted an influx of German immigrants who brought with them their religion and customs. By the mid-1800s these immigrants had made a permanent home in what was referred to as "America's Rhine Valley." For the next century, meatpackers and breweries, alongside the city's many churches, dominated much of the urban landscape of Covington.

About the Author
The images in this volume, selected primarily from the extensive collection of the Kenton County Public Library, are representative of the unique history of Covington. Included are photographs of the magnificent homes of the Licking Riverside and Wallace Woods neighborhoods as well as stately government and commercial buildings, many of which have since fallen under the wrecking ball. Also highlighted are modes of transportation, the 1937 Flood, the city's residents, and panoramic views of old Covington. The Kenton County Public Library's volunteer committee display their love for their community and underscore their commitment to preserving its singular history with this treasured volume.
