Jasprit Singh was born in New Delhi, India in 1953. His parents, Gurcharn Singh and Gursharan Kaur arrived in Delhi a few years before his birth as refugees due to the partition of India into India and Pakistan. As a child Jasprit observed how mindfulness could provide a rich life even in material poverty. Jasprit Singh is currently a Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. In addition to his work in science and technology, Jasprit has deep interest in the use of yoga to enhance personal and social well being. He has founded the RussaYog® style of yoga and runs studios and training centers in USA. You can find out more at www.russayog.com. Jasprit and his wife Teresa have been married since 1979 and have two sons, Nirala and Nihal.
About the Author
Jasprit Singh obtained his Ph.D. in Solid State Physics from the University of Chicago. He is currently a professor in the Applied Physics Program and in the Department of Electronic and Computer Science at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He has held visiting positions at the University of California in Santa Barbara. He has authored over 250 technical articles. He has also authored 8 textbooks in the area of applied physics and technology. His area of expertise is novel materials for applications in intelligent devices.
