Henry Rehder, Jr. is the author of Growing A Beautiful Garden: A Landscape Guide to the Coastal Carolinas (Banks Channel Books), now in its second printing. He was born and raised in Wilmington, North Carolina, and graduated from UNC-Wilmington in 1972. After graduation, he went on to work atand eventually manage--his familys flower shop, Will Rehder Florist, Inc. Founded by Johanna Rehder in 1872, the shop has been a continuous family-owned operation for 127 years, making it the oldest retail flower shop in North Carolina.

Henry Rehder has served as a trustee and past president of the New Hanover County Extension Service Arboretum Foundation. He is the former host of the popular Dr. Plant garden programs for radio stations WAAV and WMFD, and was the featured weekly television lawn and garden specialist for WWAT-TVs Good Morning Carolina, as well as a frequent guest on WECT-TVs Carolina in the Morning with Bob Townsend show.

Mr. Rehder is a weekly writer for the Wilmington Star-News, and a featured lawn and garden writer for Scene Magazine. He has done several media tours of the Southeast as a representative of lawn and garden pest control companies, and is a former instructor for UNC-Wilmingtons Pathways program.
