Creating Clever Castles Cars: From Boxes And Other Stuff (Little Hands Books)

Examines how to design and make all different kinds of places to play with boxes and other things.

PreSchool-Grade 3–Beginning with an encouraging note from the author, this title explains the differences between constructive and dramatic play, as well as the benefits of play. Constructions include houses and living spaces, favorite buildings and structures, animal homes and habitats, all kinds of things that go, shops and stands, mini-theaters and places to perform. Challenge-level icons help adults to determine the complexity of the project. Building tips, safety, basic supplies, and accessories are discussed. With color illustrations on every page and easily obtainable supplies, children and the adults who assist them (especially for using a utility knife, a hot-glue gun, chicken wire, and wire cutters) will enjoy these creations. They include a flower-fairy house; a plastic milk-jug igloo; a newspaper-roll hut; a cardboard barn, castle, and pyramid; a cruising car; a fire engine; a dump truck; a helicopter; and more. A popular addition for most craft collections.–Augusta R. Malvagno, Queens Borough Public Library, NY
