Creating Textures in Colored Pencil

It would seem, looking at the lifelike textures in this book, that the techniques used to create them are complicated. But they're really very easy. The simple "secret" is making the most of colored pencil's distinctive translucent properties with techniques such as layering, burnishing and underpainting.
