The Creative Drawing Course

This fun, easy-to-follow book is designed to help readers draw better than ever before while simultaneously having fun and developing their individual drawing styles. Richard Taylor utilizes easy-to-follow exercises, useful tips and inspiring images to help them:

-Acquire sound drawing skills by learning how to observe a subject properly -Work loosely and spontaneously, freeing themselves of tight, rigid drawing habits -Experiment with new techniques and play with "abstract" shapes to produce pictures that owe little to their points of origin

It's all the instruction readers need to build both their drawing skills and confidence, step-by-step.

Richard Taylor is a well-known artist, author and teacher whose previous books include Natural Watercolors and Watercolorist's Guide to Painting Buildings. His articles have appeared in a number of leading art technique magazines.

Observation-based drawing skills are the foundation of Taylor's Creative Drawing Course, which provides a thorough discussion of line, tone, shape, form, and shadowing, with clear instructions well enhanced by black-and-white and full-color illustrations. After exploring the properties of different papers, Taylor concentrates in the second section on the visual and physical energies used in the act of drawing. Finally, he combines observation skills with the energized approach to "direct drawing," a fear-free, immediate reaction to the subject at hand. Whitney Scott
