Creative productivity doesn’t just help your students ace “the test.” It equips them to ace life.
Technology gives us the freedom and ability to create and consume more today than at any other point in history. That means that, as teachers, administrators, students—heck, as humans—we stay busy.
Keeping track of time, data, and ideas, not to mention assignments, can sometimes seem impossible. And if you struggle with organization and efficiency, just imagine how much more your students may be struggling to keep up with life’s daily demands.
In Creatively Productive, Lisa Johnson shows you how to . . .
Devise individualized plans for personal and student organization
Manage time more effectively and get more done
Choose the best note-taking styles and strategies for you and your students
Set and track goals—and avoid procrastination
Teach students how to use reflection for personal and academic purposes
Boost reading retention—and so much more!
Equip your students with skills and resources they need to succeed in life.
This book is meant to be a love letter and a guidebook to the perennial, to things that matter, have mattered, and will continue to matter. This book is also deeply personal, as I share many of my own insights, projects, processes, and stories. To stay true to this theme, I thought I would hack the old author biography a bit. Sure, biographies are perennial, but they do evolve and grow in different ways. And as this book has a firm foundation in journaling and reflection, I thought you might appreciate this format:
-
What is your favorite book? Hands down, the Outlander series. I have adored Diana Gabaldon, Claire, and Jamie for twenty years.
-
What is something not everyone knows about you? Most people know that I love Blue October. Few people know that I was actually in their music video for "The Chills," which was filmed in San Marcos, Texas.
-
What are your favorite pens for taking notes? I love the Sharpie Art Pens Fine Point and Faber Castell Pitt Artist Brush Pens. When I get them, I organize them in ROYGBIV order for my own sanity.
-
What are your favorite Netflix series? On My Block, Friends, Love, Ozark, Stranger Things, The Crown, Jane the Virgin, Grace and Frankie, and Fuller House. (See, I wasn't joking about the binge-watching and procrastination.)

What does a typical day at work look like? I am an Educational Technologist at a 1:1 high school. No day is ever the same, and I absolutely love that about my job. I also love working directly with students as well as staff. One day I will be in meetings and working with professional learning communities. Another day I will be teaching visual literacy and slide design to students developing pitch decks in our incubator class. Another day I will be troubleshooting video projects in English classes right before I deliver a webinar for parents on digital distractions and time management.
