The Criterion of Scientific Truth (Classic Reprint)

Discover how evidence and truth are built from our memories and sensations. This rigorous, accessible work traces the long history of truth theories—from ancient philosophers to modern thinkers—and explains how the mind orders experience. It reveals why what we remember and how we describe it can shape our understanding of reality, science, and knowledge itself.

This edition examines how testimony, perception, and reasoning interact in forming reliable knowledge. It shows why simple sensory reports aren’t enough for scientific certainty and how the language we use (the syntax of reminiscences) influences conclusions. With clear examples, the book invites readers to reconsider how evidence is evaluated in science, history, medicine, and everyday life.

- Learn how different schools defined truth and why skepticism emerged
- See practical methods for assessing evidence and avoiding biased interpretations
- Explore the role of memory, description, and interpretation in scientific reasoning
- Consider historical examples that illuminate the challenges of judging reliability

Ideal for readers of philosophy, history of science, and critical thinking, this edition offers a grounded, readable path through complex ideas about truth, evidence, and the mind’s role in knowing.
