A beautifully bound collection of critical and historical essays by the noted writer of the nineteenth century Lord Macaulay. Two volumes bound in one. Complete in two volumes. This particular copy is bound in a full calf binding, with marbled endpapers and marbled fore edge. Thomas Babington Macaulay was best known as a historian and politician, who is best remember for his seminal work 'The History of England'. Each of the essay featured in this volume were originally published in the Edinburgh Review. Among Macaulay's most notable essays featured in this Scottish publication was his essay of the poet Milton, which is featured in this collection of work. With a previous owners ink inscription to the front blank that reads 'George Marx. With the best wishes of Henry Plmouck On his leaving Eton. Easter 1865' In a full calf binding with gilt detailing to the spine. Externally smart, with minor shelfwear, and light fading to the spine. A few marks to boards. Light spotting to the reverse of the front and rear endpapers, with an ink inscription to the front blank. Internally firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good Indeed.
