Insensitivity

All sections of the Ghanaian society, public servants, doctors, school teachers etc. have been, highly incensed and appalled at the award of this huge financial rewards to members of parliament who are not public servants but political and private lords.

The truth is that a majority of these MP'S just make sound bites in their party's interests and hardly reflect public, national or constituency interest. Our democratic system is a facade, a paraphernalia of democratic forms, i.e elections, free press, independent judiciary etc. There is a real absence of democratic substance as elected Governments pursue policies which are diametrically opposed to the will of the people. The Government almost seems to have amnesia about who elect them.

They do not feel accountable or answerable to public opinion. This insensitivity in fact equates to democratic dictatorship. The four year ritual of a ballot box democracy merely installs politicians who are deeply selfish, uncaring and ruthless in their pursuit of personal wealth.
