My Crochet Sampler

My Crochet Sampler by Frances Lambert. This Victorian-era crochet manual introduces the art as both a practical craft and decorative skill. The text opens with a concise explanation of crochet terms, stitches, and the mechanics of holding the needle, followed by guidance on selecting materials such as wool, chenille, silk, and beads. It then offers a comprehensive compilation of patterns for a wide range of objects—from sofas and pillows to purses, bags, slippers, caps, and cradle quilts. Patterns cover plain single crochet, plain double crochet, open crochet, and treble open crochet, with notes on increasing, decreasing, and finishing. The book emphasizes simplicity and adaptability, showing how a single stitch structure can yield many designs, and how to combine colors and embellishments for rich effects. Rich with engravings and practical tips, My Crochet Sampler aims to equip readers to create useful household items and elegant accessories, whether for charity, education, or personal enjoyment.
