Review: The Boston Book Review notes Sam Cornish's ability to "create a bluesy music out of plain-spoken language," and that's as good a summing up of Cornish's poetic project as any I've come across. His fans include Amiri Baraka and Lucille Clifton, and there aren't many poets speaking as profoundly to and from the black experience. "The Beating," with an incredibly concise style, speaks worlds. Here is a fine poet at top form.
