Original designs by Jim Gilbert, adapted for cross stitch by Sheron Ruffell. This book contains the three full-size colour cross-stitch patterns from the West, Mid, and North Coast shown on the front cover. Patterns are full size and are approximately 37 cm x 27 cm (14in. x 11in.) with each based on accurate, tradional designs. Also included is a First Nations area map, Aboriginal art within a cultural context, Aboriginal designs used in cross stitch explanation, illustrated cross stitch instructions. Soft cover, 8 1/2in. x 11in., 36 pages.

About the Author: My two older brothers and I we born in Port Alberni BC where my parents had settled when they immigrated from the Shetland Islands. We were raised in the lower mainland where I graduated from high schools with majors in art and commerce. I have always had an interest in any type of arts and crafts being taught and encouraged by my mother at an early age, especially my love for knitting and embroidery. I have spent my life living in smaller mining communities and raising my three children, along with working full time. I moved to Tumble Ridge in 1992 to be with and marry my wonderful husband Doug, and this is where I discovered my love for cross stitching and the new experience of another way of painting with thread. From the moment I first started cross stitching, I wanted to design my own pattern, especially ones of Native art as these patterns seemed to be non-existent and wanted to share my love and respect for it with others. Then a chance meeting with Karin Clark gave me the opportunity to fulfill my dreams. It has been quite a rewarding experience converting these beautiful works of Jim Gilbert into cross stitch and I hope others will enjoy them as much as I do.
