“Crossing The Bridge - The Forgotten Manuscripts” *80th D-Day Special Extended Edition is a collection of reminiscences of war veteran Private Kay Larsen a RAMC orderly who landed by glider on the eve of D-Day near Pegasus Bridge.
This special extended edition has been produced to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of D-Day with the addition of maps, photographs and documents to further illustrate the story behind the manuscript.
Pvt. Larsen's introduction to war is brutal, slumped alongside him within minutes of crossing the enemy coast is his best friend killed by anti aircraft fire ( flak) . Under intense fire unarmed and protected only by a Red Cross armband he attends to the wounded both friend and foe.
Returning to Normandy some 40 years later Larsen is clearly haunted by his recollections . Although he never describes them as such, he is clearly suffering from PTSD ( Post Traumatic Stress Disorder ).
No matter how harrowing his recollections are , no one is really interest in hearing the stories of an Old Codger. It's only when he within the company of his contemporaries does he find recognition and solace.
