A landmark of independent comics and gothic graphic storytelling, The Crow follows Eric Draven, who returns from the dead to avenge the murder of his fiancee, Shelly. Created by writer-artist James O'Barr and inspired by personal tragedy, the work became an enduring expression of grief, love, and vengeance, ultimately inspiring the celebrated 1994 film starring Brandon Lee. This definitive Special Edition presents the expanded version of O'Barr's original vision, incorporating approximately thirty pages of additional artwork, restored sequences, the concluding segment "Sparklehorse," and the poignant scene "An August Noel." Also includes a substantial new introduction by O'Barr explaining the creation and restoration of the work, together with additional reflections, memorial material, and color illustrations. Condition: Near Fine hardcover in Near Fine dust jacket. Black boards remain clean and attractive, with bright gilt spine lettering, minor handling wear, and a sound binding. Interior pages are exceptionally clean, with strong black-and-white reproduction, vivid color plates, and no visible writing or annotations. The original dust jacket is complete and retains its original price, showing only light shelf and edge wear, principally near the extremities. An attractive hardcover presentation of this influential graphic novel. The copyright page provides an important distinction: "First Gallery 13 hardcover edition October 2017" appears alongside a complete number line ending in 1. This identifies the copy as the first printing of the 2017 Gallery 13 hardcover, rather than the first publication of The Crow or the first appearance of the expanded Special Edition. The expanded version was originally presented in 2011. In his introduction, O'Barr explains that some material was omitted from the original comics because of the technical limitations of early independent-comics printing, while other sequences could not be completed to his satisfaction at the time. The restored edition is therefore more than a conventional reprint: it incorporates material intended for the original narrative. Particularly notable is the dedication to Brandon Lee, whose death during production of the 1994 film gave the story an additional layer of real-world poignancy. The volume also preserves the artistic relationship between O'Barr's stark monochrome storytelling and his atmospheric color illustrations. …
