Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. First Edition (first printing). 8vo. 189pp + [ii] publisher's advertisements. Black cloth lettered in white at the spine with red- and green-stamped square decorations. Top edge very slightly dust soiled and with a shade of light partial toning to the title verso. A virtually fine copy in non-price-clipped pictorial dust wrapper designed by Timothy Birdsall, lightly dust soiled at the rear panel and with a touch of edge- wear and several tiny fractions of loss from the spine ends and corner tips. The author's first book, as succès de scandale inspired by his early life of crime. Cook is better known as a crime writer under his 'Derek Raymond' pseudonym, and deemed one of the founders of British noir. He adopted that penname to avoid confusion with the American crime writer, and "the bloody shadow minister for health". Uncommon. Seller Inventory # ARC94138
