About the Author

Naci� en La Coru�a. Cuando era ni�a derrochaba fantas�a, era muy traviesa, siempre estaba inventando juegos, no entend�a el mundo que la rodeaba. Apenas prestaba atenci�n en clase en el colegio de monjas al que asisti�, pues estaba demasiado entretenida en hacer volar su imaginaci�n y crear sus propias historias. Le�a y rele�a cl�sicos de la literatura como Celia, Mary Poppins, La isla del tesoro, Peter Pan, Cuentos rusos... Sus padres, preocupados por su falta de disciplina, la enviaron a un internado a Madrid. All�, gracias al ballet y la gimnasia, entre otras cosas (fue campeona de Espa�a a los trece y catorce a�os), se centr� por fin en los estudios y los suspensos se convirtieron en sobresalientes. Inici� los estudios de Derecho en la Universidad de Santiago de Compostela, aunque los acab� por la UNED en Nueva York. Tambi�n es diplomada en Filolog�a Hisp�nica, en Derecho Ingl�s y en Derecho Comparado por la London Politechnic School. Adem�s, cuenta con una licenciatura en Lengua y Civilizaci�n Americana en el Marymount College de Nueva York. Ha trabajado como profesora en distintos centros de Espa�a y Estados Unidos. Sus cuatro hijos dieron a Mar�a el impulso definitivo hacia la escritura. Empez� a inventar cuentos y aventuras que despu�s ellos representaban. Ha sido subdirectora del departamento de comunicaci�n en Ediciones SM, y colabora en varias revistas literarias. En 2007 fue galardonada con el Premio Cervantes Chico por el conjunto de su obra.
