The author of this book is well known as the author of the controversial article ?Alcoholics Anonymous: Cult or Cure?, that was published in Harpers Magazine in February 1963. Please view all of the photos for the conditions. About the book and author: Dr. Arthur H. Cain has been working intensively in thefield of alcohol studies since 1947. He earned his B.S., M.A.,and Ph. D. degrees at Columbia University as a result of his interest in alcoholism. As a counselor to alcoholics he hasspecialized in helping those alcoholics for whom AlcoholicsAnonymous, orthodox psychotherapy, and pastoral counseling have failed. He has achieved an astonishing rate of success in this"Court of Last Appeal" role, and he wrote hisdoctoral dissertation about seven of these"hopeless" alcoholics - all of whom are now leading healthy, happy, creative lives.He is the author of the highly controversial article,"Alcoholics Anonymous: Cult or Cure?" (Harper's Magazine, February, 1963); and the widely acclaimed book, Young Peopleand Drinking, also published by The John Day Company.Doctor Cain has felt from the beginning of his inquiry intoalcoholism that"whole new concepts in general psychologymust be forthcoming if we are to gain any real insight intothe problem."
