About this Item
Times Printing House, Philadelphia. 7 ¾ in. x 5 ¼ in. (36) pp., 16 distinctive woodcuts (after the manner of William Nicholson), printed on a gray, thick textured paper. Tan linen spine, title & design of boy & grandfather clock in silhouette in black & red on front cover, brown paper covered boards. Some wear to all corners, minor wear to covers, light pencil name on title page, slight browning to margins. Very odd nursery rhymes & limerick like poems to explain common phrases, mishaps, etc.: 'Dickery Dickery Die, It's nice to be Sky high, But I wouldn't care to be in the sky When the pigs begin to fly.' This verse is accompanied by a woodcut of a boy on a steeple saying hello to a flying pig! Ends with an unusual Christmas story. Black & white 'retro' style woodcuts make this a really different piece. Scarce. Seller Inventory # ABE-1550152137187
