"Current Christian Thinking" offers a profound examination of the theological landscape during a pivotal era of religious transition. Written by Gerald Birney Smith, a prominent voice in early 20th-century religious scholarship, this work navigates the complex intersection of traditional faith and modern intellectual currents. Smith provides a critical overview of various movements within Christianity, analyzing how different schools of thought seek to address the challenges of a scientifically-minded and rapidly changing world.

The book delves into the shifting foundations of religious authority, moving away from rigid dogmatism toward an experiential and ethically-driven faith. By exploring topics such as the historical-critical method, the relationship between religion and science, and the role of the church in modern society, Smith clarifies the essential questions facing believers during the rise of modernism. This work remains a significant resource for students of religious history and theology, providing valuable insight into the development of liberal Christian thought and the ongoing dialogue between ancient traditions and contemporary values. It is a compelling study of how religious ideas evolve in response to the intellectual and social pressures of their time.
