Current Controversies - The Middle East (paperback edition)

Authors in this anthology examine why the Middle East is a conflict area and how to facilitate peace in the region. Issues discussed include oil profits, sanctions against Iraq, and the Arab-Israeli dispute.

"This anthology includes essays that initially appeared in periodicals, newspapers, books, government documents, and public and private organizational publications...A balanced presentation for highly controversial views, the selections differ in style and polish; some are carefully reasoned, and others are emotionally charged. Three major sections explore the dimensions of the problem, its causes, and possible remedies. Pulling no punches, this title covers its subjects well. Useful for research, for reports, and for debates."

"This wide-ranging entry in the Current Controversies series gives readers information for reports as well as for making personal choices. The writing is more intellectual than impassioned, and supporting evidence usually comes from respected sources that young readers will likely recognize and trust. Rich materials for many curricular disciplines."
-- Booklist (May 2002) (Booklist 20020501)

"The volume ends with a list of relevant organizations having offices in the U.S. Included are addresses, phone/fax numbers, and email or web addresses. The bibliography contains recent titles. A thorough index provides an additional reference aid...The majority of copyright dates are from the last three years. This is important because things are always changing in the region. The book is useful for class reports or debates. It also can provide information and analysis for readers trying to make sense of events in the news. Each entry provides a brief introduction to the author. This is another excellent product from Greenhaven Press. Students in high school will find this a useful resource and find it provides a variety of ideas for thought."
