Current Trends and Future Developments in (Bio-) Membranes: Cogeneration Systems and Membrane Technology offers an exhaustive overview of the status of cogeneration systems as they relate to advanced membrane technologies for energy savings. The different options for cogeneration are analyzed, both for large (district) and small (residential) size units, with different primary fuels. Energy efficiency is reported and lifecycle analysis is carried out for all different options. Angelo Basile is a Full Professor and a leading authority in membrane science and technology. Since 2014, he has served as Full Professor in Systems, Methods and Technologies of Chemical Engineering Processes at CNR-ITM in Rende, Italy. His work covers hydrogen purification and production using membrane reactors, CO₂ capture, process intensification, and the treatment of industrial effluents with advanced membrane operations. Basile has edited many scientific books and authored numerous book chapters, bridging complex research with clear knowledge for engineers and scientists. Motivated by the role of AI/ML in accelerating membrane process design and automation, he supports integrating data-driven methods for smart plants and reaction–separation optimisation.

Giuseppe Spazzafumo is associate professor at University of Cassino and Southern Lazio (Italy) and CEO at EnTraT srls. Author of more than 100 scientific papers mainly focused on hydrogen energy systems, fuel cell systems, and power to gas, Dr. Spazzafumo is also editor or co-author of four books. He has been invited as a plenary speaker to several international conferences and was a member of scientific committees at many international conferences. He was the scientific coordinator of some research activities financed by ENEA, ENEL, APAT, Italian Ministry of Research and obtained 4 Italian patents. He is a member of the Board of Directors and the Executive Vice President for Conferences of the International Association for hydrogen Energy.
