George Francklin Atkinson (1822-1859) (also Franklin) was an officer of the Bengal Engineers and artist. He was the son of the surgeon James Atkinson (1780-1852). Approximately 11 ½ inches tall. Condition Report Externally Spine good condition gilt titles with gilt decoration, bruised top and tail with some minor loss. Joints good condition rubbed and worn. Corners good condition gently bumped. Boards good condition full cloth binding with elaborate gilt decoration to the upper board with white title, both boards with an attractive blind tooled border. Page edges good condition all gilt. See above and photos. Internally Hinges good condition intact. Paste downs good condition patterned, originally gilt. End papers good condition patterned, originally gilt, now faded, signature along the top edge on the reverse of the front end paper. Title good condition two title pages, colour illustrated with original tissue guard, letterpress title tanned and foxed.
