The results of Methodism in the social, civil and religious interests of the world, are not appreciated - are not known even. Indeed they cannot be till the great balance sheet shall be made up. Methodism saved England from French atheism and anarchy; the United States from antinomianism and a licentious liberalism; and Canada from a State ecclesiasticism. It has saved the Protestant Churches of Great Britain and America from the stupor of the dark ages. Those blessed men who were the immediate instruments of this great salvation are worthy of monuments more enduring than the pyramids of Egypt. The fragrance of their memory will be as fresh a thousand years hence as it is now never, never lost - rather increasing in its preciousness till Gospel triumphs shall culminate in glory.

In the year 1867 we published the handbook or canadian metho dism, which contained a full record of all the ministers and preachers whose names had appeared in the Minutes of Conference down to that date, together with those who travelled in Canada under the direction of the Methodist Episcopal Church of the United States of America, prior to the formation of the Canada Conference, and those who laboured under the direction of the British Wesleyan Conference.
