Third edition. 50 illustrations by Hugh Thomson. 8vo, green cloth with handsome gilt illustrations and lettering on the upper cover and spine. a.e.g. 158pp. A very good copy, quite clean and bright. With a few bumps in the cloth and some minor chips at the spine panel at the tips and hinges. A charming confection. This "humorous month in the countryside" contains some of Thomson s most delightful and saucy works. Sir Roger de Coverley was the fictitious English squire of Queen Anne's reign who was one of the Spectator s most popular characters. His lovable, yet utterly ridiculous, personality gave Thomson opportunity to unleash his full whimsey in what is unquestionably the most humorous of his illustrated works.
