Title: THE DEEP (copy of the First Edition Used By ...

Publisher: Dutton, New York

Publication Date: 1961

Edition: First Edition

Spillane, Mickey. THE DEEP. NY: Dutton, 1961. UNIQUE COPY OF THE FIRST EDITION USED BY THE PUBLISHER IN PRE-PRODUCTION, a complete set of PROOF SHEETS divided into individual gatherings and loosely bound inside a proof of the dust jacket which has been stapled together to create a housing for the sheets. Production markings in orange pencil on the front panel and front flap seem to indicate that this copy was used by Dutton's in-house editorial team and not as a review copy. A penciled note states that this copy once belonged to Anthony Boucher, famed mystery author and editor. In excellent condition, dust jacket a little crinkled sheets in fine condition. While best known for his Mike Hammer novels, THE DEEP is often cited by fans of the genre as Spillane's best stand-alone novel. Signed copies and fine copies are not particularly hard to find. But this unique artifact is perfect for the collector who has (almost) everything. Bookseller Inventory # 001695
