A selection of nearly 120 works from different series produced between 2005 and 2022 are brought together in this first book devoted to the drawings of designer Pierre Charpin. He views drawing as a practice in its own right, an expression of the singular relationship that the designer has with form. It is an immediate, intuitive, and natural way of bringing forth a form that does not yet exist. The works presented in this book are distinguished by the variety of techniques – coloured pencils, graphite, pen, chalk, coloured ink, and more – but also by the permanence of certain motifs such as lines and loops, ribbons and arabesques, made in series and often representing elementary forms.

About the Author

N� en 1962, Pierre Charpin est un designer, plasticien et sc�nographe fran�ais. Apr�s avoir obtenu son dipl�me de l’�cole des Beaux-Arts de Bourges en 1984, il s’est principalement consacr� � la conception d’objets et de meubles dans le cadre de collaborations avec des entreprises comme Hay, Herm�s, Venini, Japan Creative, Ligne Roset, ou la Manufacture nationale de S�vres. Pierre Charpin a re�u de nombreux prix pour son travail, notamment celui du Cr�ateur de l’ann�e d�cern� par le salon Maison & Objet en 2017, et a �t� pensionnaire � la Villa Kujoyama � Kyoto en 2012. Son travail a fait l’objet de plusieurs publications (dont une monographie publi�e en 2014 par JRP) et de nombreuses expositions en France comme � l’�tranger.
