Two spine labels per volume: bottom label (publisher) is mostly absent or illegible; upper labels (title) are rubbed. No foxing. No bookplates, but does bear former owner signature on front pastedown in many volumes. Pencil bookseller note on front free endpaper of volume 1. Text is bright, with no markings or marginalia. Text block is tight in most volumes. Front hinge starting in volumes I-2, II-2, IV-1, VI-2, VII-1, IX-2. Open 2" tear along the crease line of the fold out map in VI-2. Top edge gilt, deckle fore- and bottom-edges. Tissue guards on most plates. Many later volumes with uncut pages. Several fold out extras including the pedigree of Pepys. Occupies 21" on the shelf, with a total weight of 22.75 pounds. The diary that Pepys kept from 1660 until 1669 provides eyewitness accounts of great events, such as the Great Plague of London, the Second Anglo-Dutch War and the Great Fire of London.
