Late 19th century calf leather covering original spine and boards; stains and edge-scuffing to boards; spine has faded handwritten ink title which is difficult to discern. Old ownership stamp on text block's bottom edge; modern ink name stamp on fore-edge and bottom edge. Front free endpaper torn and strongly wrinkled with 1891 pencil ownership inscriptions as well as three ink name stamps (two being 19th century and the third being modern); pencil notes on rear free endpaper; modern name stamp on unpaged advertising leaf following ffep; old name stamp on title; some foxing throughout. Double-column text. Both Vol. I and Vol. II title pages share the same Harper 1834 imprint. Binding is firm. Still a handsome book albeit without a legible spine title.
