DICTIONARY OF WORLD STAMPS

The stamp was invented in 1840 as a receipt for letters and postage. Since that time stamps have grown to become a major business and thousands of people around the world have made stamp collecting a hobby. Apart from this, the postage stamp represents and documents a cavalcade of modern history.

This unique book combines philately with history, plus the varied and fascinating geography of the stamps.

The books has two sections--the first divides the world into areas, with full-colour maps showing how boundaries and countries have continued to change since 1840. The changes are portrayed in the stamps that have been issued worldwide.

The second section is a dictionary with an alphabetical listing of every stamp-issuing authority, and also the inscriptions which show the provenance of stamps and the period of their currency. Both sections are cross-references and fully illustrated with stamps.

Whether you are a new or experienced stamp collector this comprehensive reference book will not only be an invaluable aid to organising your collection but will also enhance your understanding of the link between stamps and the historical events which have led to their issue.
