Issued as Carnegie Inst. Publication 173. Part I: xvii+342+21(index)+102 plates (with tissue guards)+ (2, blank leaves); Part II: xvii+pp343-900+18 (index). Ex-University of London with their heraldic plate fr.pastedown+ 'withdrawn' stamps top same and bottom verso 2nd end blank Part I, end text Part II, Part I has fragment of ticket pocket bottom end pastedown+ fragment of loan-sheet edge in end gutter, similar end Part II but only v.faint ticket-pcket ghost. Orig. publisher's binding in black cloth with impressed borders to boards & gilt sp.lettering, generally clean & unworn but some minor faults: Part I has what looks like a few short (2-3cm) brown paper remnants bottom back, with sl.pigment loss surrounding and some superficial surface scratches to same, also a 1 cm. scrape top fr.edge, otherwise unworn; Part II has only a v.sm.cloth tear and tiny hole bottom sp. Apparently very scarce in 1st ed. This work followed up Reichert's pioneering 1909 study (with Amos Peaslee Brown) on species differences in proteins. He is recognised as key figure in the history molecular biology and use of crystallography. Well over 5.2 kg. so will attract substantial additional postage , especially outside U.K.…
