Interior leaves loose, text somewhat foxed, but overall quite good. A short pamphlet in which the owner of a patent for a new method of tanning animal skins describes the process and gives directions on implementing it to potential customers. The pamphlet comes with a deed which the buyer would fill out in order to demonstrate that he had bought the right to use the process. "In the Pamphlet which accompanies each deed, the Excelsior Tanning Process is familiarly explained, and the directions are so plain and complete that any one can speedily acquire a succesfull practice of the art." Searls of Southampton MA in 1865. Text vignettes in the form of ordinary typographical images. A deed of transfer of rights appears with the first and third of these, but not with the second. All the imprints shown are relatively uncommon, but the Russell, Massachusetts imprint may well be unique. Printed wrapper 14, (1) pages, folding frontispiece, illustrations. The frontispiece is a printed form giving notice that D. Stevens, the publish has procured the patent from Johnson ``and for a valuable consideration'' wil ``assign, sell and set over'' the right to use the patent. The cuts of anima are decorative rather than instructional.
