22 pp, paper covers. In 1912 Emmeline Pethick-Lawrence, her husband Frederick and Mrs Pankhurst were convicted of conspiracy to incite persons to commit malicious damage after a window-smashing raid in London. They were sentenced to 9 months in prison and after refusing to pay the costs of the prosecution, the bailiffs auctioned the contents of the Pethick Lawrence's house "The Mascot" in Holmwood, Surrey. Many of the lots were bought back by their supporters. The auction catalogue is also interesting because amongst the items listed are 6 pages of suffragette / women's suffrage and political books. Covers pulling on staple, horizontal fold mark, creasing and light edge wear to bottom right corner of front cover, slightly split and worn at bottom of covers to the spinesome creasing to covers and pages, tear and wear to covers by the staple with a little paper loss by the staple (does not affect the text), back cover detached from staple, light age soiling to covers, staple rusty and partially broken with some pages slightly loose, slight rust marks by staple.Some contemporary annotations / underlining in pencil of prices and notes on the sale.
