This copy is in new, unmarked condition bound in yellow buckram covered boards with black titling to the spine and bright gilt decoration by the artist to the upper board. This copy is bright, tight, white and square. A dust wrapper is not called for, this copy is encased in a robust gray paper covered slipcase. The Folio Society edition of The Discovery and Conquest of Peru is a substantial, scholarly, and visually rich volume presenting Pedro de Cieza de León’s eyewitness‑based chronicle of the Spanish invasion of Peru. It is one of the Society’s major historical works: large in scope, meticulously annotated, and produced to the high physical standards typical of Folio’s late‑20th‑century publications. Pedro de Cieza de León (c.1518–1555) was a Spanish soldier who travelled extensively through the Andes and recorded the earliest and most detailed account of the conquest of Peru. His chronicle is based on: Interviews with conquistadors who served under Francisco Pizarro and Diego de Almagro Testimony from Indigenous informants knowledgeable about Inca history and his own observations during campaigns and administrative travels.
