Full colour facsimile reprint of the original First World War, War Office war diary of the Brigade Machine Gun Company, 120 Infantry Brigade, 40th Division, covering June 1916 to February 1918 across 147 pages. It names 64 places across 76 dated entries. Alongside the daily entries the volume carries ten reports, narratives and plans, fourteen Operation Orders and one map. Among the papers are: March Table to Accompany 120th Infantry Brigade operation order No. 41; Programme to Accompany 120th Infantry Brigade operation order No. 49; March Table to Accompany 120th Inf. Bde. order No. 56. The diary opens at Grantham on 15 June 1916. 1916 is spent at Grenay, Bruay, Alliel, Les Brebis and Philosophe Trenches in Hulluch Secton. 1917 is the most travelled year, 38 places against 25 in the next busiest, and is spent at Corbie, Berneville, Moreuil, Equancourt and Heudecourt. 1918 at Noreuil, Ervillers, Dysart Camp Ervillers, Hendecourt Lez Ransart and Durrow camp. Mory. It closes at Ervillers on 28 February 1918. Grenay is where it spent longest, 42 days across five separate stays and the longest it stayed anywhere without moving was 31 days at Alliel. Trench and battlefield features named in the diary include Philosophe Trenches in Hulluch Secton, Hem Wood Locality, Dessart Wood, Mazingarbe 14 Bis Section Trenches, Dus Outs W Hem Wood and Nera Hem Wood. In 1916 it is also recorded at Southampton, Havre, Grenay to Les Brebis, Les Brebis to Mazincarbe, Malingarbe, Mazingarbe 14 Bis Section Trenches, Mazingabe to Philosophe, 14 Bis to Hulluch Sector, Les Brebis to Bruay and Orlencourt. In 1917 it is also recorded at Suzanne, Rancourt, Bouchavesnes North, Camp 112, Camp 21 Suzanne, Bethune Road Sector, Hem Wood Locality, Dus Outs W Hem Wood, Nera Hem Wood and Dessart Wood.
