Full colour facsimile reprint of the original First World War, War Office war diary of the Brigade Machine Gun Company, 172 Infantry Brigade, 57th Division, covering October 1916 to December 1917 across 127 pages. It names 22 places across 25 dated entries. Alongside the daily entries the volume carries nine reports, narratives and plans, thirteen Operation Orders, two appendices and three maps. Among the papers are: Relief Table; Relief of 171st Machine Gun Coy; Relief order; Relief of 171 M.G. Coy; Group Commanders orders; Relief orders. The diary opens at Grantham on 21 October 1916. 1916 is spent at Grantham. 1917 at Bois Grenier and Rue Du Bois and Bois Grenier Sectors. It closes at Houthulst Forest on 31 December 1917. Grantham is where it spent longest, 116 days, including a single unbroken stay of 116 and it came back to Bois Grenier three separate times. In 1917 it is also recorded at Southampton, Havre, Abbeville, Bailleul, Swartenbrouch, Estaires, Bois Grenier France, Rue Du Bois, Bois Grenier And Rue Du Bois Sectors and Pippemont.
