Full colour facsimile reprint of the original First World War, War Office war diary of the Brigade Machine Gun Company and Trench Mortar Battery, 88 Infantry Brigade, 29th Division, covering January 1916 to January 1918 across 349 pages. It names 68 places across 104 dated entries. Alongside the daily entries the volume carries 35 reports, narratives and plans, seventeen Operation Orders, one appendix, eighteen maps and two diagrams. Company; Brigade orders by Brigadier-General D.E Cayley, C.M.G, Commanding, 88th Inf. Brigade; Operation orders by Major a Morris Commanding 88th M.G. Coy. Appendix E; Movement orders by Major a Morris Commanding 88th Machine Gun Company in the Field 8th; Movement orders 88th Machine Gun Company in the Field Tuesday 12th December 1916; Appendix E Movement orders 88th Machine Gun Company; 88th Coy Movement orders Coy Machine Gun Corps in the Field 26th March 19170; Company orders by; Preliminary operation orders, 88th Company Machine Gun Corps in the Field 11th August. The diary opens at Guillemont Morval on 25 January 1916. 1916 is spent at Ypres, Englebelmer, Colin Camp and Ville. 1917 is the most travelled year, 56 places against 37 in the next busiest, and is spent at Bienvillers, Canaples, Molliens Vidame, Arras and Meaulte. 1918 at Sains-Les-Frezzin. It closes at Sains-Les-Frezzin on 31 January 1918. Ypres is where it spent longest, 44 days across five separate stays, it came back to Arras seven separate times, and the longest it stayed anywhere without moving was 31 days at Sains-Les-Frezzin. Trench and battlefield features named in the diary include Trenches Monchy Le Preux, Haie Wood Sailly Saillisel, Bernafay Wood, Les Fosses Farm, Haie Wood and Rosignol Farm to St Amand. In 1916 it is also recorded at Guillemont, Bonneville, Beauquesne, Colincamps, Mailly-Maillet, Louvencourt, Knightsbridge, Beauval, Poperinghe and Brandhoek. In 1917 it is also recorded at Corbie, Mansel Camp Carnoy, Carnoy, Guillemont, Coisy, La Neuville, Combles, Haie Wood, Sector: - Sailly Saillisel and Sailly Saillisel.
