Full colour facsimile reprint of the original First World War, War Office war diary of the Brigade Machine Gun Company (1 May 1916 - 28 February 1918) and Brigade Trench Mortar Battery (10 November 1914 - 28 December), 49 Infantry Brigade, 16th Division, covering May 1916 to February 1918 across 155 pages. It names 35 places across 67 dated entries. Alongside the daily entries the volume carries five reports, narratives and plans, two Operation Orders and one appendix. Among the papers are: Report on operations; Report on operations of M.Gs at Mauveline from the Time of Leaving the Hospice Till Being. The diary opens at Noeux Les Mines on 1 May 1916. 1916 is spent at Kemmel, 14 Bis, Loos, Noeux Les Mines and Trenches Loos. 1917 at Wytschaete, Vierstraat, Moyenneville, Recques and Coy Hdq. Godewaelweld. 1918 at St Emelie, Ephey 1:10,000, Tincourt and Epehy 1:10000. It closes at St Emelie on 28 February 1918. Kemmel is where it spent longest, 101 days across three separate stays, including a single unbroken stay of 61 and it came back to St Emelie eleven separate times. Trench and battlefield features named in the diary include Trenches Loos, Mill Cot, Trenches Hulluch, Noeux Les Mines Trenches Hulluch, Billon Farm and Resting at Billon Farm. In 1916 it is also recorded at Noeux Les Mines Trenches Hulluch, Trenches Hulluch, Noeux Les Mines Trenches Loos Sector, Hulluch, Marles-les-Mines, Sailly-le-Sec, Rest at Gibralter, Billon Farm, Resting at Billon Farm and Wanel. In 1917 it is also recorded at Diependaal, Klondyke Fm, In the line Vierstraat, Locre, Merris, Eecke, Buysscheure, Vlamertinghe, Bedouin Camp and Mill Cot.
