Las hermanas gemelas Gloria y Constitución Gamal llevan una vida monótona y sin aspavientos en una ciudad del norte de México. Ambas trabajan en un taller de costura y, aunque ya pasan de los treinta años, viven juntas y permanecen solteras. Físicamente idénticas, mantienen una complicidad tan profunda que llegan a intercambiar papeles, confundiendo a quienes las rodean. Todo cambia cuando reciben una invitación a la boda de una prima lejana, ya que solo una de ellas puede asistir debido a compromisos laborales. Quien acude es Gloria. En la celebración conoce a Óscar Segura, un contador que muestra interés amoroso por ella.
Las hermanas juegan a intercambiar identidades, lo que desencadena una especie de triángulo amoroso disfuncional y absurdo.

In Una de dos, Daniel Sada explores themes such as machismo, sexual repression, marriage, and double standards within conservative environments, using a tone that moves between comedy and tragedy and established him as one of the sharpest voices in contemporary Mexican literature.
The twin sisters Gloria and Constitución Gamal lead a quiet and uneventful life in a city in northern Mexico. Both work in a sewing workshop and, although they are already in their thirties, they live together and remain unmarried. Physically identical, they share such deep complicity that they often exchange roles, confusing those around them. Everything changes when they receive an invitation to a wedding of a distant cousin, since only one of them can attend due to work obligations. Gloria is the one who goes. At the celebration she meets Óscar Segura, an accountant who develops romantic intentions toward her.
The sisters engage in a game of exchanged identities, setting off a dysfunctional and absurd love triangle.

At Tusquets he published the novels Albedrío, Porque parece mentira la verdad nunca se sabe, and Una de dos, the latter adapted into a film by Marcel Sisniega in 2002. His work was translated into German, French, Dutch, English, and Portuguese. He received the Xavier Villaurrutia Prize (1992), the José Fuentes Mares National Literature Prize (1999), the Herralde Novel Prize (2008), and, just hours before his death, the .
