Daisy, Princess of Pless

"Daisy, Princess of Pless" is a captivating memoir written by Mary Theresa Olivia Cornwallis-West, better known as the Princess of Pless. As a prominent figure in the upper echelons of European society, the author provides an intimate and firsthand look into the lives of the British and German aristocracy during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Born into the British nobility and married into one of Germany's most powerful princely houses, the Princess occupied a unique position at the intersection of two empires, offering readers unparalleled insights into the social and political dynamics of the Edwardian era.

The narrative details the splendors of court life, the complexities of international diplomacy, and the personal struggles of a woman caught between her English heritage and her German duties during the lead-up to and the duration of the Great War. Through personal letters and diary entries, the work explores themes of identity, social duty, and the tragic dissolution of the old European order. "Daisy, Princess of Pless" serves as both a poignant personal history and an essential historical document for those interested in the cultural history of the European nobility and the transformative events of World War I.
