Synopsis
Dancing with the Enemy is an authentic memoir of four years in the life of a young women. Shortly after completing her eligibility as a University of Texas Longhorn basketball player, Meg recorded her date with cancer in a funny, poignant, emotionally honest journal record. In this book, she adds to tht record the lessons she learned as she endured a year of treatment culminating in a peripheral stem cell (bone marrow) transplant in 2002. Following two years of recovery from that procedure, Meg is now back to a life in full swing.
About the Author
Meg Brown grew up in Arlington, Texas as an athlete, an honor student, and a kid with unlimited possibilities. Basketball became her sport of choice and she received a full athletic scholarship to The University of Texas at Austin. Following her senior year, her life and her health took a turn. After battling months of symptoms, she was admitted to the emergency room with Stage IV Non-Hodgkin s Lymphoma. Starting in February 2002, Meg endured over 100 days in hospitals undergoing chemotherapy and radiation. In order to claim remission, she received a peripheral stem cell transplant... one of the toughest medical procedures to withstand. With her honest and sincere approach, Meg reports her compelling anecdotes of courage and perseverance to thousands of people. Her audiences learn her secrets and valuable skills that helped her survive and thrive in the midst of hardship; and she challenges them to examine their own lives for those skills. Meg travels the country sharing her story of hope, survival, and gratitude. In addition to a motivational speaker, she is in an author and a teacher of physical education at an all-girls leadership school in Austin, Texas. Meg has been in remission since receiving her new stem cells in November 2002. She is grateful for life and the people that made her new life possible
