About this title

Mattie and Pearlie live in the deep South in the 1940's. Being poor, black and in love, made it almost impossible to exist in a world filled with bias and racism... Mysticism and spirituality are the underlying themes in this book about women who survive horrendous oppression by using common sense and mother wit.
