The Dandelion's Promise

The Dandelion's Promise is a heartwarming and magical children's picture book that follows a brave little girl and her loyal dog as they navigate life's unexpected changes. When moving to a new home brings uncertainty and new challenges, the young protagonist learns how to pause, breathe, and discover calm in the everyday moments that can feel overwhelming.

Through playful adventures, sensory experiences, and the power of imagination, children explore themes of mindfulness, resilience, and emotional growth. From feeling the wind on their faces to listening carefully to the sounds around them, the story encourages readers to connect with their senses, practice presence, and approach life with curiosity and courage.

This beautifully illustrated story also celebrates the wonders of nature, showcasing native Australian flora and fauna in rich, nostalgic artwork that captivates young readers. The gentle narrative and relatable characters help children understand their emotions, build empathy, and develop strategies for coping with change-whether big or small.

Ideal for children aged 4-10, The Dandelion's Promise is more than a picture book; it is a thoughtful tool for parents, educators, and caregivers to guide children in cultivating emotional intelligence, kindness, and confidence. Perfect for storytime, classroom reading, or quiet moments at home, this story inspires children to face challenges with courage, embrace the present, and grow into thoughtful, resilient individuals.

I am an illustrator based in Ballarat, Australia.I grew up in South Africa and I've wanted to be an artist from the time I could hold a crayon. After studying graphic design, I cut my teeth as an illustrator working on readers and textbooks for children in rural African schools. Currently my work is a lot easier compared to in those early days when I often had to use old house paint (because I couldn't afford to buy acrylics) that would dry in the African heat before I'd even finished painting. I'd have to pay my brother to pose for me and I would need to head into the library constantly to use the town's coin-operated internet for resources. Now, after close to 20 years of living in Australia, I sit in the comfort of my home studio with a high speed internet connection, all the watercolours, inks and gouache I could ever have dreamed of, and 3 children available to bribe with chocolate at a moment's notice. I have a love for colour, pattern and detail, and my style is often described as nostalgic. My work these days is mostly a mix of publishing and commercial commissions, but I welcome enquiries of all nature.
