About this Item

The artists have made a multiple as a concequence of their exhibition "Damenwahl", September 1998 in the Kasseler Kunstverein, Kassel. In "Damenwahl" or "Ladies Choice" the woman is choosing a partner to dance with. In Kassel it was Marlene Dumas' choice to make an exhibition together with the South-African artist Andries Botha. Andries Botha has made photographs of tattoos of older men. "These bodies made us feel safe and afraid. These same white older men are defeated but their skin carries the map of optimism, or arrogant history. These blemishes and marks are traderoutes of desire and will, the etchings of romance and sadness, of power and sometimes regrets. These are the bodies of defeated men with vague (r) stories of better times and dangerous women." Besides Andries Botha has recorded on CD-rom some lovestories from peoples of a Îshelterâ in Durban -S.A. Marlene Dumas appropriated a set of playcards to make her contribution. The images of these cards consists of drawing series she made the last few years, which are closely related to the image of pin-ups. "Pre-eminently these images of pin-ups are suitable to take in your hands and to play with." Edition: 300 numbered copies, signed by the artists. (in closed form: 18,5 x 15 x 2,5 cm.). Photographs available. Bookseller Inventory # 000110
