About the Author: Andrew Ward is the author of numerous books, including Out Here: A Newcomer's Notes from the Great Northwest and, most recently, Our Bones Are Scattered, his acclaimed account of the Indian Mutiny of 1857 for which he won the Washington Governor's Award. A former contributing editor at The Atlantic Monthly, commentator for National Public Radio's All Things Considered, and columnist for The Washington Post, Ward originated and cowrote a documentary about the Jubilee Singers for WGBH's The American Experience. He lives with his wife in Seattle, Washington.
