About the Author

David Simon was raised in Sharon, Massachusetts, home to the renowned Kendall Whaling Museum and spent his summers on the ocean visiting the channel islands of the Elizabethan chain that spans from Block Island to Nantucket. This produced a profound love of the sea and adventure. Later love for the writings of Conrad, O'Brian, Conan-Doyle, Poe and others, and a study of the history of men at war added an appreciation and interest in the primal reaches of human experience, and the very concepts of what makes us human and what makes us civilized. Add to that an endless fascination for battle of the sexes and the extremes to which men will go for women, and you have the essence of Dark Passage. This novel is Mr. Simon's first, and naturally focuses on these themes.
